Humberto Leon and Carol Lim’s KENZO collection was so vibrant and varied. I don’t know how you couldn’t find something to get excited over. My top two favorite looks were this easy to wear maxi dress and the silky jumpsuits paired with pops of neon on the platform shoes.

Killer coats with knit collars and color-blocking paired slim trousers were easy to envision off the runway.

They covered a lot of trends throughout the show; from the color-blocking above to the peplum suit offerings shown here with piping and in a deep red velvet.

Fear not Print-Lovers! What KENZO collection (ever!) would be complete without some mind buzzing prints. These two are my favorites; but is it weird that the cat reminds me Givenchy?

Get optical with these Black + White combos. I love the flat oxfords with both of these looks.

Here we have a battle of the sex appeal. Are you the type of girl who likes to channel her sexiness in a slim pencil skirt or do you prefer being a kittenish minx in a baby-doll skirt? Your choice, you can do both if you like.

Last but not at all least are the fruit dresses and coats. I especially loved the idea of pairing a coat with this simple splattered a-line dress. The fruit prints of course remind me Stella & Prada’s past collections but it also reminds me of Andy Warhol’s space fruit paintings.

Let’s start off with wow. I easily could have posted every single look from this collection. I managed to narrow it down because I am an editor, after all. I was first taken by these lovely and romantic coats worn over lacy slip dresses that recall an early 90’s vibe.

These airy and frothy dresses are the equivalent to eating marshmallow fluff on clouds with pomeranian puppies rolling around.

Sweet side swooped bangs and strong red lips paired with sparkly accessories.

So elegant are these lace and embellished dresses with the ruffled cuffs. It’s a lot going on without being overwrought. I never knew til now that I seriously need a cap sleeve coat in my life.

Ladylike bags, boots and shoes.

One of my favorite pieces is this slouchy sweater with the sheer cut out. I wasn’t so fond of the cropped trouser that went down the runway but I think paired with jeans it would be so modern. I’m not mad at the suit version on the right either.

Another strong vibe in the collection was this series of super sexy knits.

I try so hard not to post fur on my blog but the color of this coat with the slip dress is reminiscent of that early 90’s Drew Barrymore / Courtney Love look that I was totally rocking with thrift store finds at the time. Plus the fur trim on the ivory look is so delicate I can’t help but be in love with the vintage feel but thoroughly modern dress.

I popped over to the MiH Jeans booth at Project Show last week to see what lovely denim is in the works come Fall. As usual the denim styles and fit were next level but that is not what I am going to show you today. It was the separates and the jackets that I fell in love with. Like the sweet chambray top above! The most comfortable fabric made into a very chic blouse.

I love the nautical vibe with a twist in forest green stripes and high-waist skinny jeans. A modern approach to a classic style.

A way to quickly glam up a classic white shirt and chic jeans is this gorgeous green velvet blazer with silk lapel.

If edgy is more what you are going for, then check out this leather and denim motorcycle jacket from the MiH Collection. Even the lining is special. It’s the details that get me!

Last but not least, this fringy, fuzzy vest that just about screams at you to have an Anita Pallenberg moment. It’s one of those pieces that can be dressed up or down.

Right now I am finally sitting down and trying to recap what has gone on in my career in the past 2 weeks. Fourteen days ago to this minute I found out that the job I had been at for 5 years was over. This was more that just a job. I loved it, lived it, breathed it. I was blessed enough to spend the last 60 months falling in love with my Antenna magazine family. SKim got me all teary-eyed with her post quickly after we all found out that our last issue wasn’t going to print and we were folding. Getting to laugh, cry, debate, eat, drink, dance, travel, create and argue with Keri, KV, SG and Harms was truly an experience I will hold dear to me.
I came from being a freelance fashion stylist so I had never had a job that lasted that long ever, in my entire life. As soon as I found out, after a million questions about what happens next to all of us, much to my creative director Evan’s surprise, as I should have been more freaked out about being unemployed, I then expressed my concern for all the great brands and designers that were going to be disappointed about not getting their credits in the spring issue, my brain jumped right back into freelancer mode.
Got to hustle. Strike while the iron is hot. One door closes and another one opens. Be positive. All things happen for a reason. We are still family. We said all this and more to each other.
I quickly reached out to Marcus Troy because I was on board to be a part of the Project Bloggers for the Vegas stint of Project Show for AntennaMag and OnceWhenIWas. Did it matter if it was just this personal blog? Nope, it didn’t. It was just the boost I needed to hear.
In 3 frenzied and long days of packing, doing final returns and emailing the hundreds of fashion contacts I managed to wrap up my office and get all my stylist gear into storage just in time to be spit into #NYFW. Zooming around fashion week while clearing out computers and wardrobe cages all at the same times was quite a feat. But Keri and got it all done just in time to take a meeting with Diesel for a styling gig.
One door closes and another one opens. Yep, people kept saying that. My last day at Antenna was also my first freelance stylist gig of the year. The next 3 days were spent at the new Diesel concession inside the Bloomingdale’s Soho giving my advice and styling winners at the big event. You should check it out on the 3rd floor if you happen to be in Soho. Straight from Bloomie’s I jetted to Las Vegas to see what’s in store for FW 12 and met with all my peeps to let them know I am now a free agent. (Droppin’ hints!)
In the next few days there will be #ProjectShowNYLV recap posts on this site in addition to a more uniform way of posting. I guess it’s official, I am a stylist - slash - style blogger.
Stay tuned.
