Isn’t it weird the way music always brings you back to the same memories? Even if you spend years piling new memories onto the songs they still go back to the original thoughts and experiences. Everything returns me to NYC in my mind these days. It’s lovely, perfect weather here in LA. The other day it rained and for a minute it felt like a cold fall day. Around this time in NYC there are certain songs I always go back to because they make me think of winter coming. Music always makes me less anxious for events I don’t really want to experience. Which is how I always felt about winter. Just a few snippets of lyrics is all it takes to make something feel cinematic and beautiful.
“Flying jerky patterns Like snowflakes in the air”
“In blizzard of ‘77 The cars were just lumps on the snow”
It doesn’t even matter if the words are from the same song. When Let Go by Nada Surf came out we still bought CDs and I walked around with a Walkmen. I would listen to the whole record in a way I just don’t do anymore with music. Just walking around the city, it was the perfect soundtrack for the way it gets so misty, wet and sparkly in late fall at night.
“Geometric patterns Smearing out of control”
“But in the middle of the night I worry It’s blurry even without light”
My mom sent me this box of vintage cards that she found at my great aunt’s in Miami. I think it’s safe to say I have uncovered the fashion inspiration for Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton fall collections. No?
Today’s outfit: It’s in the details. Thrift store score: Silk Marc Jacobs dress, golf oxfords c/o Candela. I had to cut the sweetness of the frilly dress with the boyish shoes and sexy fishnets. Nixon watch with vintage bracelets and rings.
It’s been a beautiful week of fall weather here in Nyc which allows me to still wear this silk Marc Jacobs dress that I scored last year at a thrift store in Syracuse. A $20 Marc Jacobs dress, I nearly died! I paired it with kiltie fringe oxfords c/o Candela. I had to cut the sweetness of the frilly dress with the boyish shoes and sexy fishnets. Makes for a great mash up.
Best detail about these Minkoff shorts is the cut out on the back sits right on my waist tattoo. I never get tired of this MJ pear clock necklace my bestie got me years ago. Who cares if it doesn’t tell time. I am probably late already!
