OWIW : Fiona Apple

Once When I Was styling Death Cab For Cutie I got to go to a VH-1 taping of an Elvis Costello show that was being recorded in Atlantic City.  I love DCFC and Elvis Costello so I was beyond excited to get to see this concert.  I was backstage with the boys and we were all discussing our favorite Elvis Costello songs and I said mine was I Want You.  It’s a really sad, desperate tear-jerker and just kills me every time I hear it.  You must be wondering what all of this has to do with Fiona Apple.  Then Ben says to me I think that is the song Fiona is singing.  Come on, let’s go find her.  Ben and Nick take me to find Fiona and they introduce us and tell her she is singing my favorite song.  I gush and tell her how that song destroys me and she agrees.  I was dressed up in a vintage sparkly 50’s dress because a) we were in AC and b) it was the night before my birthday and Fiona then says you are so beautiful and then I swooned and was all, “NO! You are so beautiful!” and then we got all girl crushy and hugged and I blushed and ran away.

I bought her new record and have been listening to it non stop and thinking about what a gorgeous, sweet and talented person she is and how blessed I am to have crossed paths with her.  Oh yeah, her performance that night of I Want You totally gutted me and I stood at the front of the stage crying.

I filmed this at the last Beastie Boys concert I went to in 2008 at Terminal 5.  I couldn’t stop from dancing so it’s shaky but it’s a pretty good portion of So Watcha Want.  I went to this show with one of my best friends and it was a surprise for his birthday that me and his girlfriend (now wife!) planned.  I can’t even count how many times I saw them live at this point but I know for the sure the top 3 shows I ever saw are in this order:

Check Your Head Tour at Cameo Theater in South Beach.

Lollapalooza Tour in Miami.

Secret Hello Nasty Show at Irving Plaza in NYC.

Happy Birthday Gaga!

Lady Gaga was born this way a quarter of a century ago today and I am so excited to see what she does going into the rest of the century.  In honor of her birthday I will post photos from the best birthday present I ever received (thanks to my man!) which was tickets to the Monster Ball.

Even blurry you can see her emotion.

Yes, I was that happy.  This was after the show and I was sweaty from dancing.  I wore my Owilta earrings and a vintage sequin butterfly top.
