I’m heading out west. Back to where I started from. When I moved to New York sixteen years ago I said I was on a 5 year plan. I came here with the dream of being a film director. I wanted to move to LA but it seemed easier if I stayed on the east coast because I have more family on this side of the country. Plus we could get rid of our cars and hell, for so many other reasons, a few being that I was dreaming to live in NYC since I first heard Run-DMC, LL, Afrika Bambaataa and of course, The Beastie Boys as I ran around South Florida as a little graffiti girl with the older boys.
But I digress, 5 year plan. In my 20-something mind it seemed logical that I would be ready to go to LA to work in film in 5 years. Well, by year 3 having already been to LA to work in the movie biz I decided no, thank you very much, I am no way in hell ready to leave NYC. I was just getting started. By year 5, I was flat out saying, I would neverevereverever leave New York and especially not for LA.
Here is where I stop to eat my words. Excuse me while I chew and swallow.
Now it’s 2012 and I am heading out west. Not as a film director, that life plan changed after enough movie set experience and a stumble into the wardrobe department. I go as a fashion stylist. A career I never knew existed growing up but which I was inadvertently studying my whole life.
