Before Dr. Ruth and Carrie Bradshaw, there was another pioneer in the progressive field of talking to women frankly about sex: Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown. Brown, who passed away today at…

Cosmo was my high school magazine addiction.

Anna Piaggi was a true free spirit and great fashion journalist.  I was always so excited to spot the walking rainbow that she was during fashion week.  She was brave and inspiring in her style.

"Mr. Mickey and PAPERMAG were saddened to learn this morning that Disco Queen Donna Summer had died of cancer. She was 63. We’ve all shaken our booties to the musical magic of Miss Summer on tunes like “Last Dance,” “On the Radio,” “She Works Hard for the Money” and “Love to Love Ya Baby.” Miss Donna could always get us dancing. She indeed worked hard for the money. RIP Donna Summer!"

So true.

“And now,” cried Max, “let the wild rumpus start!” Maurice Sendak

I can’t even deal with this.  Spike Jonze must be besides himself this week.  First a teenage hero passes away and now a childhood hero.  So thankful these two creative humans were such a huge part of my life and inspired me to think absurdly, dream vividly and be wild.

I’m just going to post a ton of fashion from the Met Gala and think about pretty dresses.

Escapism.

This is by far one of the best pieces written on the passing of MCA.  Thank you Questlove.

i know the Boys are going down in history as “first white act this” and “video pioneers that” and blah blah blah….

but id like to acknowledge that they are truly rocks most realized group. (not hip hop but all music really)

you really don’t see many audiences willing to go where their leaders take them once said audience gets comfortable with a position—i mean even the beatles imploded 5 years post spiritual enlightenment. i mean did we really expect the most thoughtful mature considerate act in music to be the same brats who gave us Licensed To Ill?

Can’t stop, won’t stop…. posting Beasties.

I filmed this at the last Beastie Boys concert I went to in 2008 at Terminal 5.  I couldn’t stop from dancing so it’s shaky but it’s a pretty good portion of So Watcha Want.  I went to this show with one of my best friends and it was a surprise for his birthday that me and his girlfriend (now wife!) planned.  I can’t even count how many times I saw them live at this point but I know for the sure the top 3 shows I ever saw are in this order:

Check Your Head Tour at Cameo Theater in South Beach.

Lollapalooza Tour in Miami.

Secret Hello Nasty Show at Irving Plaza in NYC.
