whatdeesays:  The makeup at Nina Ricci - just perfection.

Agreed.

Nina Ricci : FW12

Let’s start off with wow.  I easily could have posted every single look from this collection.  I managed to narrow it down because I am an editor, after all.  I was first taken by these lovely and romantic coats worn over lacy slip dresses that recall an early 90’s vibe.

These airy and frothy dresses are the equivalent to eating marshmallow fluff on clouds with pomeranian puppies rolling around.

Sweet side swooped bangs and strong red lips paired with sparkly accessories.

So elegant are these lace and embellished dresses with the ruffled cuffs.  It’s a lot going on without being overwrought.  I never knew til now that I seriously need a cap sleeve coat in my life.

Ladylike bags, boots and shoes.

One of my favorite pieces is this slouchy sweater with the sheer cut out.  I wasn’t so fond of the cropped trouser that went down the runway but I think paired with jeans it would be so modern.  I’m not mad at the suit version on the right either.

Another strong vibe in the collection was this series of super sexy knits.

I try so hard not to post fur on my blog but the color of this coat with the slip dress is reminiscent of that early 90’s Drew Barrymore / Courtney Love look that I was totally rocking with thrift store finds at the time.  Plus the fur trim on the ivory look is so delicate I can’t help but be in love with the vintage feel but thoroughly modern dress.

Influences and Influencers

Looking over the FW12 Nina Ricci photos and I was of course dying over the collection but this one look:

Made me think of Rodarte FW08

Which made GHTSofNY (thanks for the link!) think of this Junya Watanabe FW06:

Which in turn makes me think of Vivienne Westwood’s SEX sweaters.

I love all these designer’s collections but sometimes it is nice to have a bit of a history lesson.

Get ready for posts on three FW12 collections.

i love this.
